We're excited to announce that the US. Department of State has redesigned the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) document for the first time in 14 years!

This new design offers great improvements for your family:

Enhanced Security: The document now incorporates the latest security features to make it even harder for fraud to occur and keeping your child's identity safe and secure.

New Aesthetic: The design now beautifully features the National Mall and the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. during the cherry blossom season, giving the document a distinct, recognizable, and appealing look.

What is a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA)?

The Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a U.S. Citizen (CRBA) (Form DS-1350) is an official document issued by the U.S. Department of State that formally recognizes your child as a U.S. citizen from the moment of their birth abroad. This essential document is for children under the age of 18 whose parent(s) were U.S. citizens at the time of the child's birth and met the requirements for transmitting U.S. citizenship.

Key Benefits of the CRBA for Your Family

The CRBA is a cornerstone document that provides peace of mind because it serves as:

Solid Proof of Citizenship: It is recognized worldwide as the primary legal evidence of your child's U.S. citizenship and establishes their identity as a citizen from birth.

Gateway to Documentation: Once a CRBA is issued, it can be used throughout your child's life as a foundational document when applying for other official records, most notably by helping them get their very first U.S. Passport.

Foundation for Legal Records: It safely records the necessary information about your child and the parent(s) who transmitted citizenship—information that is critical for all future official transactions.

You can find more detailed information, including application steps, on the Department of State's travel website: travel.state.gov/en/international-travel/living-abroad/birth.html
